Microwave Common-Frequency Absorption/Transmission Mode Conversion Based on Active Components

To overcome the limitations of traditional frequency selective surfaces in flexible state switching at same frequency, this paper proposes a novel active surface (AFSS) that simultaneously exhibits conversion between absorption and transmission modes band. By welding PIN diodes on bottom structure AFSS, band-pass (transmission) band-stop (absorption) filters can be controlled electronically. In common-frequency switch modes, impedance matching AFSS is attained by altering capacitance value varactors embedded top AFSS. The functionalities proposed design are investigated full-wave simulations (in HFSS software) 11.4 GHz. Furthermore, operating principle analyzed using an equivalent circuit model AWR software). verify concept, prototype manufactured, responses mode measured adjusting bias voltage. measurement result consistent with simulation analysis. Owing to tunability varactors, structural asymmetry compensated achieve 80% absorptivity transmissivity within field view ±35°. developed highly valuable used scenarios such as antenna domes, etc.
